He came to me and told me something I did not want to hear. I have to be honest about the talk, because I am already on my way to Timbuctu, and I am still just a little bit irritated. If you can look beyond my obvious attitude, maybe this can benefit you.
He shocked me right away.
“Your Health Needs the Strain. You Need to Walk Many Miles. Timbuctu is in the middle of the Sahara. It’s a great place for spiritual growth.
This is good for you. You will call it a curse. But I know. Your Health needs the workout this assignment is going to give you.
My Bloodwork is great. I am Cool.
Right away, I got upset. “Health? Hell. I got a great print out from the doc. My blood work is great. I am cool.”
“And when I say Health, I mean the wholeness of your Being that needs some reshaping; the smugness of your way, which you have developed so handsomely. It needs some real adjustment; the way you pass people by without any thought. The way you feel better than others, just because you have perfected a superior grin.”
“You don’t have to get so personal.”
“Personal?” I am kicking your butt to Timbuctu. In fact that’s where you are going for a reason. If you want to carry my name, I will get as personal with you as I please. You’re not what you think you are. You had a great start, but self satisfaction has caused a real build up of poisonous crud all along the arterial pathways of your heart.
The Most Evil Person I Know is “Confident”
“You have a lot of hate hidden in you. You need Timbuctu, buddy. Unless you want to die in a way you don’t want to die.”
“You sound like you don’t like me. I thought I was so far along. I thought I was your child.”
“Yeah. You are at that spot in life where you need to go to Timbuctu. You need your butt kicked at night by a bunch of guys that don’t like you; After you have delivered one of your go to hell speeches. The ones you give where you are sure you are the best and toughest one in the room.”
“All of your buddies pat you on the back because you have managed to stay employed. And what has that done to you, but made you a hard ass. Confidence is great. The most evil person I know is Confident. When I drag your butt out of Timbuctu, I hope that last thing I see is that friggin’ confidence of yours.”
“Does it matter that I don’t like this assignment?”
“It shows that you don’t fear me. It shows that you are long overdue for a trip to Timbuctu.
“Just because I don’t like it, that’s why you are giving me this assignment!”
You are not only without Fear of me; you don’t have any of the inherent charm that I expected you to have by now. Your spiritual breathe stinks, and I hope that gets cleared up when I pick you up on the other side of Timbuctu. I love you, but not because of the way you are now. I love you because of the ancient lives you lived when you had some class. I love you because of the way you can be some day again. But, it’s got to start with Timbuctu.”
“I sense you are angry with me.”
“I am angry with you because I have not been able, yet to make you mad at yourself. And now that we have had our talk, I can tell you now that I am really certain I am going to send your butt to Timbuctu. I simply promise you that it won’t kill you. It will hurt a lot, but only because you don’t suffer well.
“If I did not love you, I would let you stay in this fat land. I would let you go the way you have gone. Sure it’s fun. You carefully chose this way you are living, you chose it so well, and you are living it so well, you will die before I want you to.
I can tell you that the journey will be long and difficult and that there will be many obstacles along the way. But according to my counselors, man, you need this process. And when you are done, you will be to reach your potential. In other words, to complete both his physical and spiritual work, you have to leave this comfortable place you are in and go into negativity, or that place that I call Timbuctu.
On the road of your life -- your process needs to have complications—things that get in your way. The fact that you are such a baby about this means it’s going to be really tough on you. But you will not perish. This is for your good.”
“But why must it be this way?”
“Because essentially, the more difficult the process, the more capable the individual, the stronger the Vessel, and the higher the individual can climb on the ladder of spirituality. You have aroused my anger because you have tremendous potential, and you don’t know it.
Each and every one of my Kids have been put in the exact right situation to become the brightest light possible. Every difficulty we experience is an opportunity for us to climb the next rung on the Ladder.
But we need to pay attention to those things that are around us so that we can grow from them. Going to Timbuctu has a way of sharpening up everyone.
You might have noticed how happy and perfect you are when things are right. But when things are wrong, everything goes out the window.
We throw crap out the window. We throw all the notes on the floor. We are not sure we like the journey that we claim we can walk. We scream, "Help, help!"
Take a good look at your life. When things are not what they are supposed to be, how do you react? Well, you have been acting worse and worse. Compared to the suffering of millions of others, you ain’t doin’ that good. So, we have to change your State of Health. See what I mean? How certain are you in your spiritual path?”
“Frankly, I guess I am not that sure.”
Do you understand that why you are here and all you are is - your ability to go to Timbuctu?
Life here on this earth can be all kinds of Cousins of Hell. This life is a life often shrouded in veils of Wailing Negativity. In fact, in a world where chaos—from earthquakes to massive flooding to unemployment, terrorist attacks, and war—is rampant, you may wonder if there is any sure way to be protected from this Negativity.
Conscious Positive Actions
Well, there is, but it is up to us. It is only through your conscious positive actions, via our ability to share with others, do you have the power to create a spiritual shield that can protect you from anything negative that crosses your path? Why? Because we live in this world of manifestation, a world where the Divine is revealed through our positive deeds. Your trip to Timbuctu will sharpen you.
You often ask to see Me as a benefit to you, to feel My presence. But all too often in your searching, you overlook the opportunity to experience the Me right in front of you. You may find a new Me, and a new Self in Timbuctu.
When you are on the Road to Timbuctu, remember that I often come to you in the form of someone who through your help in a situation in which you can be of service. In Timbuctu, you must understand that these are our opportunities to build your Light, to bolster your protective shield, to give you strength, to remember that you are totally capable of rising above what's going on in your life. Being in Timbuctu, no matter how negative things may seem to be, you can come out new and different and bright with light!”
“Well, I am sorry I did not react well. As long as I know you love me, I will go to Timbuctu, and see how my State of Health can improve.”
“This is not a death sentence. It is a Life Promise.”

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Whew, I had to go to a spiritual Egypt for seven years, then I overstayed, and that's not good. Timbuctu is that like Egypt?? For how long? I guess until the process is completed. Sometimes, if we don't get it right, then we have to do it over....challenging. Great article, it made me think for awhile. The testing continues.Abraham was in Israel, but sent to Haran - a place of negativity. The Aspirant is always on a challenge to surmount the negative world of manifestation. "Timbuctu" is a way of knowing that the challenge is always there, but the Aspirant gets better and better at positive self control. It is not a place that you repent of, and never go back to, but rather the place "right next to Israel" where we understand we can always be tested. Not like Egypt...Timbuktu ( pronounced t?m buk tu?; Koyra Chiini: Tumbutu; French: Tombouctou), formerly also spelled Timbuctoo, is a town in the West African nation of Mali situated 15 km (9.3 mi) north of the River Niger on the southern edge of the Sahara Desert. The town is the capital of the Timbuktu Region, one of the eight administrative regions of Mali. It had a population of 54,453 in the 2009 census.
a good spiritual walk.I thought I would use a real place that has metaphorical overtones. Thanks.
